Comments are welcomed and encouraged on this site because we believe that informed discussion is one of the best ways to learn. This Comment Policy explains what we are looking for in reader comments, and how we protect our readers who choose to comment. We reserve the right to moderate reader posts, and to remove posts that do not comply with this policy.
1. What kinds of comments are you looking for?
We want articulate, well-informed comments, relevant to the content. We welcome your advice, criticism and unique insights into the topics we discuss. Comments deemed to be spam or questionable spam will be deleted. Including a link to relevant content is permitted, but comments should be relevant to the post topic. Promotional links are not accepted.
A few things we won’t tolerate: personal attacks, threats, obscenity, vulgarity, profanity (including expletives and letters followed by random punctuation marks), commercial promotion, impersonations, incoherence and SHOUTING.
2. Why do you moderate comments?
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for readers to discuss the topics we address in our courses. Because CIC Training is a learning resource, we have created a safe space for discussion by students. By screening submissions, we enforce the safety of our site so that readers can feel secure asking questions and discussing technical challenges.
While most comments will be posted if they are on-topic and not abusive, moderating decisions are subjective. We will make them as carefully and consistently as we can. We cannot review individual moderation decisions with readers and generally cannot alter a comment once it is posted.
3. How do I post a comment?
If you are writing a comment, please be thoughtful, civil and articulate. In the vast majority of cases, we only accept comments written in English; foreign language comments will be rejected.
We use Disqus as our commenting engine. We ask you to register with Disqus to ensure that you are a “real” person and that you accept our terms and conditions. The registration process serves to facilitate the development of our online community and ensure that members take responsibility for their writings.
If you are already a Disqus user, all you need to do is log in to Disqus, and then write your comment.
4. When and where will my comment be displayed?
Since comments are moderated, they do not appear on the site until they have been approved. Comments are displayed directly below the relevant blog post.
5. What about criticism of CIC Training, Compliance inSight Consulting or Machinery Safety 101?
We welcome strong opinions and criticism of our work and do not hesitate to approve critical comments. However, personal attacks against our staff will not be permitted, and any criticism should relate to the article in question. Generally, we will not allow comments to become bogged down with discussions of our moderation policies, and we will moderate accordingly
